2021 State General Election Polling Place Employment

 

WORK TYPE: Casual

LOCATION: Various throughout Western Australia

JOB DESCRIPTION: The next State General Election is on 13 March 2021

This is a unique opportunity to participate in assisting the Western Australian Electoral Commission to successfully conduct the forthcoming State General Election. As a member of the election team reporting to a District Returning Officer, you will participate directly in the election process and be part of the team that works at a polling place on Election Day.

Duties include:

  • Issue ballot papers to electors;
  • Mark off electors' names on an electoral roll;
  • Count ordinary votes;
  • Answer enquiries from electors; and/or
  • Prepare and issue declaration votes;
  • Hygiene duties – wipe surfaces and touch points.

SELECTION CRITERIA: There are questions listed in the online application that are relevant to this type of employment. Please ensure that you complete these questions so you can be assessed according to your skills and experience. Your application will be assessed by a District Returning Officer who may contact you when vacancies are to be filled.

Due to current health requirements - applicants for all mobile polling positions must have a current Flu Vaccination and be able to provide evidence of this at appointment.

OTHER CONDITIONS: You will need to have no active or official involvement with any candidate, political party or election campaign committee.

Polling staff are employed on a casual, as needed, basis and employment does not continue from one event to another.  Please be aware that working in a polling place can be a very long and busy day. 

Online training will be provided, as well as in person instruction.
