Which bin should I use?
The red lid general waste bin is mainly for things which can’t be recycled:
  • Food and organic waste
  • Grass clippings and small pruning
  • Nappies
  • General household waste
All items in the yellow lid recycling bin should be clean, dry and empty with the lids removed.
The following can be recycled:
  • Glass bottles and jars (clean and empty)
  • Paper (not shredded)
  • Cardboard (flattened)
  • Plastic bottles and containers (clean, empty, no lids)
  • Steel and aluminium cans (clean and empty)

Further advice on what can and cannot be recycled can be found here.

On the day of collection please ensure your bins are placed on the kerb by 6am.
No more annual verge collection service
From July 2025 the Shire of Ravensthorpe is no longer providing an annual verge waste collection service to residents.

This service was previously offered to allow for the collection of bulky items such as furniture, white goods and other household items not suitable for the weekly waste collection.

Key reasons for the decision to scrap this service include:

  • Non-compliant waste frequently being left out for collection
  • Health and safety risks to staff and members of the public
  • To reduce costs

We understand this change may cause some inconvenience however, we remind all property owners that vouchers for domestic waste disposal are provided annually with rates notices.

Also, all white goods including degassed refrigerators and freezers are accepted at both Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun waste facilities at no cost.

What day is bin day?
Below is the online version of the fridge magnet we send out to ratepayers with collection details.
You can also download and save a copy of the  2025-2026 kerbside waste calendar.
