Fire control and firebreak notices
The annual Fire Control and Firebreak Notice outlines the Shire's requirements for firebreaks, hazard reduction, burning periods, permits and property owner responsibilities.
The notice applies to all landowners and occupiers within the Shire of Ravensthorpe, not just ratepayers.

Annual timeline
The following dates apply each year.

Requirement |
| 1 September |
Last day to apply for an individual Bushfire Management Plan. |
| 1 October |
Last day to apply for a variation to the Fire Control Notice. |
| 30 October |
Firebreaks and hazard reduction measures must be completed. |
| Early November |
Firebreak inspections commence. Dates will be advised each year. |
| 31 October – 30 April |
Firebreak compliance period. Properties must be maintained in accordance with the current Fire Control Notice. |
Burning
- Burning is prohibited on Labour Day, Easter (Good Friday to Easter Monday), Anzac Day and King's Birthday.
- Burning is also prohibited on Sundays, except between 1 March and 19 September.
- Burning periods may change due to seasonal conditions. Updates will be published on the Shire's website and official communication channels.
- A permit from a Fire Control Officer is required to burn during the Restricted Burning Period.

Variations
If you cannot meet the requirements of the Fire Control and Firebreak Notice, you may apply for a variation.
Applications close 1 October each year.
Variation application forms are available:
- from the Ravensthorpe or Hopetoun Shire offices
- by contacting the Shire during office hours to request a copy by email or post.

Harvest & Vehicle Movement Bans
The Shire of Ravensthorpe is responsible for imposing a Harvest & Vehicle Movement Ban (HVMB) during the hottest parts of the day based on the advice of the Fire Control Officers.
