Rates

Rates help fund local services, infrastructure and facilities across the Shire. 

How rates are calculated 

Rates are based on your property valuation and a rate in the dollar set by Council each year. 

  • residential and commercial properties use Gross Rental Value (GRV)
  • rural properties use Unimproved Value (UV)

A minimum payment may apply.

Property valuations

Property values are set by Landgate (Valuer General’s Office), not the Shire.

  • GRV valuations are updated every 5 years
  • UV valuations are updated each year If you believe your valuation is incorrect, you can lodge an objection with Landgate within 60 days of receiving your rates notice.

Pensioner and senior concessions

If you are an eligible pensioner or senior, you may be entitled to a rebate on your rates. 

Pensioners

  •  may receive up to 50% off rates (capped by the State Government)
  • may be eligible to defer payment of rates and the Emergency Services Levy (ESL) 

Seniors

  •  holders of a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card and WA Seniors Card may receive the same rebate as pensioners
  • holders of a WA Seniors Card only may receive up to 25% off rates (capped)
  • seniors are not eligible to defer payment of rates or the ESL

Emergency Services Levy (ESL)

The Emergency Services Levy is a State Government charge collected with your rates.

 All funds are passed on to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

Rates payments

Pay online or via BPAY.

Use the details on your rates notice to make a payment through your bank.

Pay in person

Visit the Shire office to pay by cash, EFTPOS or cheque.
