Stray Animals

If you have found a stray dog or livestock, please contact Ranger Services as soon as possible.

When reporting a stray animal, please provide:

  • The location of the animal
  • A description of the animal, including breed, colour and size if known
  • Whether the animal appears injured or aggressive
  • Your contact details

If it is safe to do so, you may secure the animal while waiting for a ranger to attend. Please do not place yourself at risk.

If you have lost a pet, please contact us and monitor local community noticeboards and social media pages for updates.

Native Fauna and Marine Wildlife

If you find sick, injured or orphaned native wildlife, please contact the Wildcare Helpline on (08) 9474 9055.

The Wildcare Helpline can provide advice and connect you with registered wildlife rehabilitators across Western Australia.

They can also assist with enquiries relating to snakes, seals, stranded whales and dolphins.

For emergencies involving public safety, please contact Ranger Services.

Dog Attacks

A dog attack can take many forms. From a person or animal being chased and growled at, to physical contact resulting in the death of an animal or injury to a person. All attacks should be reported to Ranger Services, regardless of severity.

All complaints are confidential. A dog that has shown the propensity to attack may be declared as a Dangerous Dog and be subject to additional control requirements e.g. muzzled in public.

Barking Dogs

If you are concerned about excessive barking, we encourage you to speak with the dog owner first. In many cases, owners may be unaware that their dog is barking while they are away from home.

If the barking continues, please contact Ranger Services. You may be asked to complete a barking diary to help investigate the complaint.

Rangers will work with both parties to resolve the issue. Please note that rangers cannot remove a dog from a property solely because it is barking.

Dog Excreta

Dog owners under state law and local laws are responsible for picking up after their dogs.

Failure to pick up after your dog in public may result in a $100 fine.
