Artistic swimming sessions for Ravensthorpe & Hopetoun

Residents of Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun will have the chance to dive into something a little different this October, with Artistic Swimming WA bringing a series of Come & Try artistic swimming sessions and coaching courses to the Shire of Ravensthorpe.

Formerly widely known as synchronised swimming, artistic swimming combines swimming, movement, coordination and creativity in the water.

The upcoming program will give both children and adults the opportunity to experience the sport, with sessions being held at the Ravensthorpe Community Swimming Pool and Hopetoun Beach.

These are not learn to swim lessons

It is important to note that while no previous artistic swimming experience is required, participants need basic swimming ability and confidence in the water.

The AquaStART coaching courses are also suitable for people without previous artistic swimming experience and are particularly relevant to swimming teachers, coaches, aquatic staff or community members interested in developing a new skill.

Participants will learn how to structure safe and engaging sessions, teach introductory artistic swimming skills and use the AquaStART lesson plans and development pathway. Artistic Swimming WA is particularly interested in developing local instructors who may be able to continue delivering sessions in the district during Term 4 2026 and Term 1 2027.

When and where?

Sessions in Ravensthorpe will begin with a children’s Come & Try on Monday 19 October, followed by adult sessions and an AquaStART coaching course during the week.

Ravensthorpe Come & Try activities are free, apart from normal pool entry.

The Hopetoun program will take artistic swimming out of the traditional pool environment and onto the coast, with adult and children’s Come & Try sessions at Hopetoun Beach.

These sessions in Hopetoun are free.
