This week we’re saying goodbye to a long-time Hopetoun Parks and Gardens staff member who is retiring, while also welcoming a new trainee to the team!
The legendary Kerry “Chappy” Chapman has clocked up 15 years of service to the community during two separate stints with the Shire of Ravensthorpe.
Chappy said he’s loved every minute of his job, but it’s time to retire and enjoy life.
“You honestly couldn’t work in a better town than Hopetoun, you can hear the ocean and the air is so fresh and clean,” he said.
“I’d love to keep working but it’s time for another chapter and there’s a trip up north planned.”
We are currently in the recruitment process to fill the position Chappy is vacating, but we also have another new addition to the team.
16-year-old local Tyler Galwey recently joined the Hopetoun Parks and Gardens team as part of a Fitzgerald Business Network traineeship after enjoying his work experience with the Shire last year.
Tyler said he enjoys being outdoors and he’s learnt a lot from Chappy.
“I like that it’s physical, hands-on work,” he said.
“The biggest challenge when I first started was putting my phone down, but now I just enjoy being outside and working hard.”
The Shire of Ravensthorpe wishes Chappy a very happy retirement and looks forward to working with Tyler in the years ahead.
