The Shire of Ravensthorpe's 2026–2027 Firebreak Notice is now available. Property owners and occupiers are encouraged to read the Notice carefully, as several important changes apply this year.
This Notice applies to all owners and occupiers of land within the Shire of Ravensthorpe, whether you live in Ravensthorpe, Hopetoun, another townsite or on a rural property.
All owners and occupiers are responsible for preparing their property in accordance with the Notice before 31 October 2026 and maintaining it throughout the compliance period.
This year’s Notice contains several important changes.
The compliance period will run from 31 October 2026 to 31 March 2027, finishing one month earlier than last year.
Property requirements are also more clearly divided according to zoning, location and lot size. Owners and occupiers should check the section that applies specifically to their property rather than relying on requirements from previous years.
Access to habitable buildings is now an express requirement across most property categories. Accessways and driveways must meet the specifications provided in the Notice to support emergency vehicle access.
Property owners with an approved Bushfire Management Plan must also comply with the Firebreak Notice. A Bushfire Management Plan does not replace the requirements contained in the Notice.
Failure to comply may result in the Shire issuing a Works Order requiring the property to be brought into compliance within 14 calendar days. Infringements, court penalties and the recovery of costs may also apply.
Property owners and occupiers are encouraged to read the full Notice carefully and begin preparing their properties early.
The dates, property categories, access requirements and non-compliance provisions are set out in the new Notice.
