The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) is planning to use the Ravensthorpe Entertainment Centre as an assembly point for firefighters and emergency personnel while they fight a bushfire in the Fitzgerald River National Park.
Their local firefighting units are being joined by other specialist firefighters from across the state and they will use the grounds to house temporary buildings and accommodation, such as dongas and tents.
The firefighters will be sleeping at all hours of the day and night, so we ask the community to please stay away from the tents.
DBCA will be undertaking burning operations near West River to contain this bushfire, which started by lightning on Boxing Day. The burning will result in a smoke plume that may be visible from Ravensthorpe and the South Coast Highway.
Please take care when driving into Ravensthorpe as emergency vehicles may be active in the area.
The fire is currently at Bushfire Advice - Stay Informed level and there is currently no threat to lives or homes.
