Fish bin trial at groyne to combat dumping

To combat the ongoing issue of illegally dumped fish carcasses, the Shire of Ravensthorpe will trial fish waste bins on the Hopetoun groyne.

Throughout 2024 and in early 2025 there was an increase in the reporting of dumped fish carcasses around Hopetoun.

The Easter long weekend is traditionally busy in Hopetoun and a good opportunity to start the trial of the dedicated fish waste bins.

Dumped carcasses found on the track opposite the beach entry to Two Mile in Hopetoun.

Three blue wheelie bins will be placed on the Hopetoun groyne before the Easter long weekend.

The bins will be clearly marked for fish waste only and will be emptied regularly.

We know the majority of people do the right thing, but we’re offering this service as a cost-effective solution to an ongoing issue.
