The Shire of Ravensthorpe is inviting public feedback on a proposed amendment to Local Planning Scheme No. 6 that would allow an unstaffed service station to be built on part of Lot 109 South Coast Highway, Ravensthorpe.
What's being proposed?
The land is currently zoned Rural, which doesn't allow for a service station.
The amendment would add a site-specific "Additional Use" permitting a service station on part of the property, subject to two conditions: it must be unstaffed, and it can only sell petroleum products and diesel exhaust fluid (no convenience store or other retail).
The Rural zoning itself isn't changing.
Why here?
There are currently only two service stations in Ravensthorpe, both on the eastern side of town.
This site sits on the western approach to town, near the CBH grain facility, and would give travellers, farm traffic and heavy vehicles coming from the west somewhere to refuel without detouring through the town centre.
