President's Report: Tuesday 18 August 2026 Ordinary Council Meeting

Published on Wednesday, 19 August 2026 at 12:46:12 PM

It was great to be back at the Hopetoun Community Centre for our August Ordinary Council  Meeting, where we considered a range of key issues including planning and infrastructure matters.

Council endorsed the draft Shire of Ravensthorpe Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2026–2031 for public consultation.

The draft Plan sets out actions to improve access to Shire services, facilities, information and community participation over the next five years.

Many community members shared their experiences and ideas during the early stages of developing the Plan. Now that the draft actions have been developed, this consultation is an important opportunity to review what is proposed and tell us whether we have got it right.

Even if you contributed earlier, we encourage you to review the draft and have your say during the 21 day consultation period. Feedback will help shape the Plan before it returns to Council for final adoption.

Integrity Framework adopted

Council also adopted a new Integrity Framework for the Shire of Ravensthorpe.

The Framework brings together the Shire’s existing integrity, governance and assurance arrangements into one coordinated structure, covering areas including ethical conduct, conflicts of interest, procurement, fraud and corruption prevention, use of Shire resources, information security, complaints and reporting.

It also clarifies responsibilities across Council, management, employees and contractors and supports the ongoing monitoring and improvement of the Shire’s integrity controls.

Outbuilding approved in Hopetoun

Council approved a development application for an oversized outbuilding at 8 Forrest Way, Hopetoun.

The proposed shed included variations to standard wall and ridge heights and boundary setback requirements. Approval was granted subject to a number of conditions.

It's a timely reminder to all landowners to ensure that they reach out and discuss plans with staff before commencing works. They can help you understand the process and make sure everything is done properly before you get started.

Lechenaultia Drive extractive industry

Council approved the continuation of the existing limestone and gravel extraction operation at Lot 49 Lechenaultia Drive, Hopetoun, subject to planning and environmental conditions.

The approval is limited to the existing extraction area and does not permit additional vegetation clearing without separate approval.

Fuel supply tender awarded

Council selected WA Fuel Supplies Pty Ltd as the preferred supplier for the supply of diesel, fuel tanks and a fuel management system for Shire operations following a competitive tender process.

Council authorised the Chief Executive Officer to finalise negotiations with WA Fuel Supplies Pty Ltd and enter into an appropriate contract.

As always, the full minutes and recording of the this Ordinary Council Meeting will be available here.

I encourage everyone to come along to our meetings to see how Council operates and also to ask us questions on topics that matter to you.

See you next month.

Cr Rachel Gibson

Shire President
