At the Ordinary Council Meeting in Ravensthorpe on Tuesday 21 October 2025 Cr Rachel Gibson was elected Shire President and Cr Mark Mudie was elected Deputy Shire President for the Shire of Ravensthorpe.
Cr Gibson has been on Council since 2023 and said she is excited about taking on the leadership role.
“I am a born and raised local country girl and I am truly honoured to be entrusted as Shire President,” she said.
“I have a can-do attitude and I look forward to working with my fellow councillors and members of the Shire team to serve our community in positive ways.”
This will be Cr Mudie’s second stint as Deputy President.
The meeting on Tuesday night was the first council meeting with the new councillors in attendance and Cr Bill Auburn and Cr Benno Sutherland were sworn in at the start of the meeting.
However, the third Councillor elect, Max Szulc, submitted his formal resignation before the meeting.
The Shire’s Chief Executive Officer has informed the Department of Local Government Director General of the resignation.
In the absence of any potential backfill candidates the Shire will seek Council approval at the next Ordinary Council Meeting to appoint the Western Australian Electoral Commission to conduct an extraordinary election in early 2026.
