The Shire of Ravensthorpe is seeking a new chief executive after the recent resignation of Matthew Bird.
Mr Bird has been in the role for three and a half years and will step down in early January 2026.
Council considered a confidential item relating to this matter at the Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 19 August 2025 and agreed to begin the recruitment process to appoint the next chief executive.

Mr Bird joined the Shire in March 2022 and is leaving to take on a new role in the education sector in Albany, where his family is based.
He said serving the community as Chief Executive Officer of the Shire of Ravensthorpe has been a great privilege.
“This is a very rewarding role and I am extremely proud of how Shire staff, Council and the community have worked together during my time here,” he said.
“I’ve given as much notice as possible to ensure a smooth transition and handover with my replacement.”
Shire President Cr Tom Major said he enjoyed working with Mr Bird during his tenure as CEO and wished him well for the future.
“On behalf of Council I’d like to thank Matt for his efforts over the last three and half years,” he said.
“It was great working with him and I wish him all the best for his next chapter.”
Council agreed to begin the recruitment process and have appointed a selection panel comprising Cr Mark Mudie, Cr Sue Leighton, Cr Rachel Gibson and Cr Robert Miloseski to shortlist and interview candidates.
After the 18 October 2025 election the new Council will then consider the selection panel’s recommendations to comply with new caretaker period provisions.
