Shire welcomes new water tanker

The Shire of Ravensthorpe has taken delivery of a new water tanker, jointly funded through a $100,000 grant from the federal and state governments, plus Shire funds.

The tanker features a stainless steel body and piping, providing increased durability and corrosion resistance compared with standard steel construction. This will extend the asset’s lifespan and reduce long-term maintenance requirements.

The vehicle is equipped with inbuilt overloading protection to enhance operator safety and ensure compliance with weight regulations. Safety remains a key priority for the Shire’s works operations.

Additional features include a firefighting hose reel and upgraded sprays and nozzles. These improvements will assist with road construction and maintenance, improve dust suppression and support more efficient water use across a range of Shire activities.

Council decides to keep old tanker

Following requests from firefighters after the devasting fires over the last few months, Council has decided to keep the old water tanker for firefighting duties. With two water tankers the Shire can support both volunteer firefighters on the ground and water bomber aircraft at the airport.

This funding was made possible through the  Australian Government’s National Water Grid Water Infrastructure for Sustainable and Efficient Regions (WISER) program and the Western Australian Governments Community Water Supplies Partnerships (CWSP) program and delivered by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) through the Rural Water Planning section.

We sincerely thank DWER and the Australian Government for their support, which enables us to strengthen our operational capacity and continue delivering essential services to our community.
