Update on firefighters in Ravensthorpe

Published on Wednesday, 28 January 2026 at 10:16:00 AM

The bushfire in the Fitzgerald River National Park is now contained and under control, meaning the majority of the firefighting crews are leaving the REC today.

A smaller team will replace them and they will operate out of the Ravensthorpe Council Chamber for the next several days.

There will be extra activity throughout the Ravensthorpe Cultural Precinct, please take care when in the area.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to support this firefighting effort.

With the firefighters moving out of the REC, the gym will reopen at  6 am Thursday 29 January 2026.

Shire President Rachel Gibson thanks all of the firefighters for their hard work.

“Thank you to DBCA and to DFES and to all of our local volunteers and brigades,” she said.

“We as a Shire would like to acknowledge all who have been out there fighting for a very long time, we also thank our neighbouring community members and shires for their ongoing help on the ground, we are very grateful for their support.”
