The Shire of Ravensthorpe is pleased to announce the appointment of Nicole O’Neill as the new Chief Executive Officer.

Nicole has close to 20 years’ experience working in local government and will take on the role of CEO from Wednesday 25 March 2026.

She is currently the Director of Community Experience at the Shire of East Pilbara, following a distinguished career at the City of Kalamunda.

With two decades of experience leading teams, Nicole is well positioned to lead the Shire through the next chapter.

She succeeds Matthew Bird, who announced in August he would step down as CEO in early January 2026.

Nicole has held roles as Acting CEO at East Pilbara and Kalamunda. Her portfolios have included Fire and Emergency Management, Rangers, Community Development, Recreation, Health, Aquatics, Place, Tourism and Economic Development, Events, Leases and Licenses among others.

Ms O’Neill said she is looking forward to starting her new role and serving the communities of the Shire of Ravensthorpe.

“I’m extremely excited and I look forward to working closely with Council, staff and community to achieve success,” she said.

“Regional towns are the lifeblood of Australia and I am committed to highlighting the good work happening across our towns and showcasing what a wonderful region it is to live and work in.”

Shire President Rachel Gibson said Nicole will be a great asset for the Shire of Ravensthorpe.

“Nicole has a lot of experience in local government and she’s incredibly community-focused,” she said.

“I have no doubt Nicole will embrace the region and the community will take to her and her can-do attitude.”

Information will be shared shortly about an interim CEO who will assist after Matthew Bird’s departure on 2 January 2026.
